   History of TV3 Network Limited

TV3 Network Limited was incorporated in 1997 as Ghana’s first commercial television station. It began broadcast in the Greater Accra Region on October 1, 1997.

Ever since its inception 9 years ago, TV3 has been the leading television station in Ghana. The station has been at the forefront of bringing major exclusive and breaking news with captivating entertainment programmes to the public under the tag-line First In News Best In Entertainment.

With Ghana on the economic recovery track, there has been a correspondingly steady demand for local programmes, regardless of news, current affairs, magazines, talk shows, sports, documentaries, dramas or films. With a strong base of television producers, TV3 has revolutionized local content production to admiral levels in the broadcast industry by introducing television reality shows. The station has been a trendsetter by producing quality local production and has caught the attention and loyalty of Ghanaians. However, the station also broadcast a balance of quality foreign content movies, dramas, documentaries and sports. The station has a strong market position and reinforces its brand awareness amongst its viewers through various on air and ground events.

The reach of TV3 as per the last GAMPS (Ghana All Media & Products Survey, an annual survey commissioned by the Ghana Advertisers Board (GAB) and the Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG), although dated, places the channel as the watched and preferred free-to-air channel in TV3's core coverage areas among television households.

TV3 Network Limited over the years has chalked many successes with over 40 awards to its credit. Some of the awards won on the regional and national levels include ‘The Best TV station of the Year' (R’TV Awards 2004, Greater Accra event), the Sports Station of the Year 2004 (National Sports Journalists Association), TV Station of the year 2003 (Ghana Association of Travel & Tourist Agents), Best Station for the year 2002 (R’TV Awards, Ashanti Region), TV Station of the year (R’TV Awards 2000) adjudged by the Association of Private Broadcasting Companies among others.

TV3 Network Limited has a total of four (4) transmitter sites with a combined capacity of 18KW in the station's core coverage areas. This collective capacity places the channel above par with any other private free-to-air broadcaster in Ghana. In 1997, the station started on a 10Kw transmitter which covers the Greater Accra region (Accra/Tema), parts of the Eastern (Koforidua) and Volta Region (Ho). In the year 2000, it extended coverage to the Ashanti Region (Kumasi/Obuasi) on a 5Kw transmitter. In April 2005, the Western Region (Takoradi and its Environs) had their share of the transmission cake on a 2Kw transmitter. More recently (November 2006), the station has installed 1Kw transmitter at Cape Coast in the central region to strengthen its signal in the region. TV3 continues to upgrade its equipment for production and transmission and its employees receive continuous exposure and training in television production. This has enabled TV3 to remain as the premier private commercial broadcaster.
