handcuffAn Accra circuit court has remanded a Kumasi based driver, Yaw Boadu, in police custody until August 9 for conspiracy to commit crime and deceit.

The accused was in court charged with the offence of pirating the products of kasapreko and other distillery companies using their labels, bottles, cocks and seals.

The accused was in court charged jointly with two others, Atta J B and DD both at large, with conspiracy to commit crime, and six counts of deceit.

The prosecutor, Asp Annor, told the court, the accused Yaw Boadu, is a driver based in Kumasi.

He explained recent public complaint about sub-standard local alcoholic beverages has increased vigilance by the security apparatus of kasapreko distilleries.

He explained, the sustained effort uncovered a house at Alimatiu Maasa a suburb of Kumasi, but three persons in the process of faking products belonging to the complainant and five others, fled the scene.

Asp Annor, said police later arrested Yaw Boadu, who claimed ownership of the house.

A search in the house revealed imitated labels, original bottles, cocks, seals and many other materials of the affected companies in addition to a drum of alcohol, roots and some raw materials for producing the drinks.

He said police investigation also identified the targeted product as alomo bitters, 'sime so' ginger wine, herb afrik, mandingo, boy boys coffee and original prekese gin bitters.

Yaw Boadu's pleas were not taken as the court remanded him in police custody until august 9, to allow the commercial crimes unit of the police CID, more time to investigate the offence.
